Check your Romanian customers and vendors against ANAF directly from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. The app fills in the official company name, address and trade register number, and keeps the VAT status of your partners up to date.

The app is free and works with any Romanian localization, or without one. It also works outside Romania, for example when your company in Austria or Germany buys from or sells to Romanian companies.

What the app checks

For every Romanian customer or vendor with a valid fiscal code (CUI/CIF), the app shows:

Requirements

Setup

  1. Install the app from Microsoft AppSource.
  2. Search for ANAF VAT Validation Setup and open the page.
  3. Turn on Enabled.
  4. Check the Romania Country/Region Code (usually RO). Customers and vendors with this code are checked. Partners without a country/region code are checked when your company is in Romania, or when their VAT registration number starts with RO.
  5. Choose the Update Mode:
    • Review Changes (recommended): you see the ANAF values next to the current values and choose what to apply.
    • Update Automatically: name, address, city, county, post code and trade register number are overwritten with the ANAF values.
    • Status Only: only the VAT status fields are updated.
  6. Optional: choose what happens when a document is posted for an inactive partner (None, Warn or Block), separately for sales and purchases.
  7. Optional: choose Schedule Daily Check to re-check all partners every night.

Users with the standard D365 BASIC permissions can run checks. Administrators with D365 BUS FULL ACCESS can change the setup. The permission sets “ANAF VAT Validation – User” and “ANAF VAT Validation – Admin” can also be assigned directly.

How to use it

Check one partner Open a customer or vendor card and choose Check with ANAF. The result is shown in the ANAF (Romania) section of the card.

Check when the VAT number is entered When Check on VAT Registration No. Change is turned on, the partner is checked as soon as you enter or change the VAT registration number.

Check several partners Select partners in the customer or vendor list and choose Check Selected with ANAF. Or use Check All Customers / Check All Vendors on the setup page.

Scheduled check The daily job re-checks partners whose last check is older than Recheck After (Days). It only updates the status. Name and address changes found by the job can be reviewed later in the check log.

Check log ANAF Check Entries shows every check with the data returned by ANAF. Choose Review and Apply on an entry to apply name or address values to the partner.

FAQ

Which VAT numbers are checked? Only Romanian fiscal codes of Romanian partners (see step 4 of the setup). The app removes the “RO” prefix, spaces and dots, and validates the control digit before calling ANAF. Foreign VAT numbers are skipped.

Business Central says the VAT registration number “is not in agreement with the format specified for Country/Region Code RO”. What can I do? This check comes from Business Central itself, not from the app. Business Central compares the number with the formats set up for the partner’s country/region. Romanian fiscal codes have 2 to 10 digits, with or without the “RO” prefix, but many environments only allow one format (for example RO##########). To allow all valid codes:

  1. Search for Countries/Regions and open RO.
  2. Choose VAT Reg. No. Formats.
  3. Add the formats you need. # stands for one digit. For example: RO## to RO########## for numbers with the prefix, and ## to ########## for numbers without it.

Also check the partner’s Country/Region Code. A Romanian partner with a different code (for example AT) is checked against the formats of that country/region.

Is my data sent to SplashDev? No. Only the fiscal code and the query date are sent, directly from your Business Central environment to ANAF. See the privacy statement.

How many partners can I check? There is no limit in the app. ANAF accepts up to 100 fiscal codes per request and one request per second. The app follows these limits, so large batches take a little longer.

What happens if ANAF is not available? The error is logged in ANAF Check Entries and the last known status of the partner is kept. The scheduled job tries again on the next run.

Does the app replace my Romanian localization? No. It only adds partner validation and works next to any localization.

Does the app give tax advice? No. It shows the data registered at ANAF. Decisions about VAT deduction and posting remain your responsibility.
